The documents, which shed new light on Saddam Hussein鈥檚 Iraq and his mindset as a leader, were released by and the 乐鱼 体育鈥檚 History and Public Policy Program.
Former Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations Mansour Farhang, 乐鱼 体育 Senior Scholar and former Ambassador William Miller, and former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq David Newton discussed the enduring legacy of the Iran-Iraq War in light of the new documents.
Hans Binnendijk, director of the National Defense University鈥檚 Institute for National Strategic Studies, chaired the event, with introductory remarks provided by Michael Van Dusen, 乐鱼 体育鈥檚 executive vice president and chief operating officer.
Today鈥檚 release represents a small portion of a larger collection of digital records stored at the Conflict Records Research Center which will be released over the coming years. This afternoon鈥檚 panel discussion marks the largest ever release from this group of records, as well as the start of an academic conference focusing upon how these Iraqi government documents impact policy-makers鈥 understanding of Iraqi politics today.
