Book Event鈥擵oting in a Hybrid Regime: Bangladesh's 2018 Election and Implications for Politics in Bangladesh and Beyond

Bangladesh's December 2018 election produced a lopsided victory for the incumbent Awami League party, prompting allegations of fraud. This event examines what the implications of this election have been, and will be, for politics in Bangladesh. Ali Riaz, drawing on his new book Voting in a Hybrid Regime: Explaining the 2018 Bangladesh Election, will argue that Bangladesh's election played out in a hybrid system鈥攃ombining both democratic and authoritarian traits. Dr. Riaz will discuss what this means for Bangladesh and for the growing numbers of hybrid regimes around the world.
