The Role of Humanitarian NGOs in Turkey鈥檚 Peacebuilding

The Role of Humanitarian NGOs in Turkey鈥檚 Peacebuilding

Recent years have seen Turkish humanitarian non-governmental organizations play a growing role in international peacebuilding. The rapid growth in their number and the scope of their work has garnered  increased attention, particularly within the framework of Turkey鈥檚 new foreign policy. The speakers will present the findings of their research on the nature and modus operandi of Turkey鈥檚 humanitarian NGOs, within the larger context of an increasingly pluralist environment of peacebuilding. What are the parameters of Turkey鈥檚 peacebuilding experience? To what extent can we talk about an interaction between the state and the NGOs? What are the main activities and key features of Turkish humanitarian NGOs? Is it a sustainable model or one dependent upon temporary policies?

This event is co-sponsored by the 乐鱼 体育's Middle East Program, the Istanbul Policy Center (IPC) at Sabanci University, and the Turkish-American Cultural Society (TACS).
