To Have and to Hold: Gender Regimes and Property Rights in Twentieth Century Romania

The meaning of citizenship has changed profoundly over the twentieth century, with women experiencing the most radical shifts in how their rights and duties have been defined and protected by the state.  Visiting Scholar Maria Bucur follows the changes that have affected women in Romania in the area of property rights.  Over a century of conflict and societal transformation, women have gradually gained more rights as citizens, but full equality with men has not been achieved.

The Global Europe Program is focused on Europe鈥檚 capabilities, and how it engages on critical global issues. We investigate European approaches to critical global issues. We examine Europe鈥檚 relations with Russia and Eurasia, China and the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa. Our initiatives include 鈥淯kraine in Europe鈥濃攁n examination of what it will take to make Ukraine鈥檚 European future a reality. But we also examine the role of NATO, the European Union and the OSCE, Europe鈥檚 energy security, transatlantic trade disputes, and challenges to democracy. Global Women's Leadership Initiative

The Global Women鈥檚 Leadership Initiative has hosted the Women in Public Service Project at the 乐鱼 体育 since June, 2012. The Women in Public Service Project will accelerate global progress towards women鈥檚 equal participation in policy and political leadership to create more dynamic and inclusive institutions that leverage the full potential of the world鈥檚 population to change the way global solutions are forged.   Read more
