Unlocking Green Hydrogen Development in South America

South American governments are designing ambitious strategies for the development of a new export that could speed economic development and slow climate change: green hydrogen. Over the next two decades, these and other countries in the region hope to capitalize on their abundant wind and solar energy and hydropower to produce relatively low-cost green hydrogen, a zero-emission fuel.

For now, however, green hydrogen鈥損roduced through electrolysis powered by renewable energy sources鈥搃s an infant industry in Latin America, with limited production and technological uncertainties. Will countries in South America achieve their ambitious plans for green hydrogen production, storage, and distribution? What are the expectations for the role of green hydrogen in decarbonizing heavy industry, shipping, and other sectors worldwide? How should the United States and international financial institutions support this strategic sector?

Please join us on Monday, July 15 from 11:00am to 12:30pm for a conversation co-hosted by the 乐鱼 体育鈥檚 Latin America Program, the Brazil Institute, and the Inter-American Development Bank on scaling up Latin America鈥檚 green hydrogen industry to accelerate the global energy transition. This dialogue is part of the 乐鱼 体育鈥檚 Latin America Energy Transition Initiative.
