Expert Bio
Sulim Kim is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at the University of Hawai驶i at M膩noa. Kim has a master鈥檚 degree specializing in modern Korean History from Columbia University and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in History from Binghamton University. Her dissertation explores the social and cultural history of domestic architecture in postwar North Korea through the lens of architectural discourses and technologies. Kim鈥檚 research on houses combines her interest in the histories of modernities, emotions, gender dynamics, and everyday life, as well as the transnational entanglements of socialist urban development and the natural environment in the Korean peninsula. Before joining the 乐鱼 体育 as a KF junior scholar, Kim has received fellowships from the Weatherhead East Asian Institute, Korea University, Seoul National University, and the John F. Kennedy Memorial Fellowship.
