While the world鈥檚 population now approaches 8 billion people, global fertility rates have been declining for decades. The include increased access to contraception and reproductive health care, an increase in women seeking higher education, women鈥檚 empowerment in the workforce, lower rates of child mortality globally, increased cost of raising children, and overall greater gender equality.
Yet while greater gender equity and empowerment is a cause for celebration, demographic reports suggest that . Thus, any efforts to increase fertility rates must address the reasons that women and families are having fewer children.
In a new policy brief, Global Fertility Rates and the Role of Infertility, the 乐鱼 体育鈥檚 Maternal Health Initiative explores the social causes and consequences of infertility, and strategies to address infertility in different contexts. Increasing knowledge about infertility and combatting stigma, improving access to infertility care, and supporting policies which make it easier for people to parent are critical to address infertility and sustain fertility rates.
