Shuxian Luo is an assistant professor in the Department of Asian Studies at the University of Hawaii, M膩noa, where she teaches Chinese foreign policy and international relations and security in Asia. Her research focuses on maritime security in the Indo-Pacific, U.S.-China relations, and crisis management. She received her Ph.D. in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and B.A. in English Language and Literature from Peking University.

Russia in China鈥檚 Contemporary Territorial Disputes and Implications for the United States鈥 Indo-Pacific Strategy
Project Summary
The research project, titled 鈥淩ussia in China鈥檚 Contemporary Territorial Disputes and Implications for the United States鈥 Indo-Pacific Strategy,鈥 examines Russia鈥檚 involvement in China鈥檚 territorial disputes with Vietnam and India and Sino-Russia relations in this context. Specifically, this project investigates under what circumstances and how China uses its growing power vis-脿-vis Russia to shape the latter鈥檚 choices and approaches toward these disputes. This project also examines in what dimensions China may refrain from exerting pressure on Russia. In addition, the research analyzes the circumstances under which Beijing may perceive a significant weakening of Russia鈥檚 ties with Vietnam and India as more detrimental than beneficial, particularly in light of U.S.-China competition in the Indo-Pacific region.
