In a new series of policy briefs, the 鈥淰enezuela Desk,鈥 the 乐鱼 体育鈥檚 Latin America Program examines Venezuela鈥檚 flawed July 28 presidential election, the government鈥檚 response to post-election protests, the prospects for a democratic transition, and opportunities for the United States and other international actors to help rebuild the country鈥檚 democratic institutions.

The third report, 鈥淰enezuela鈥檚 Transition to Democracy, Still in Reach,鈥 by Tamara Taraciuk Broner, the director of the Peter D. Bell Rule of Law Program at the Inter-American Dialogue, discusses opportunities for negotiations even amid post-election violence and the importance of providing incentives, within the boundaries of the rule of law, to individuals who could facilitate a shift away from the repressive political system.
